Victorian Boiler Explosions in the Black Country

The next meeting of the Society takes place on Thursday 11th November at 7:30 pm in St. Andrew’s Church, Bilston Street, Sedgley. The speaker is Philip Jones who will be presenting his award-winning research into local Victorian boiler explosions.

Earlier this year his history project won the Express & Star Local History bursary with a paper graphically detailing explosions in Ettingshall, Bilston and Wolverhampton.

Philip Jones uncovered the stories behind the newspaper headlines to reveal the dangers of operating C19th boilers and the family tragedies when accidents occurred. Unfortunately industrial disasters of this kind were a regular feature of the age.

As usual visitors are invited to come along – admission £1. Annual membership of the Society costs £5 and gives free access to the programme of talks.
